About the Event
This introductory course provides an overview of PTAB proceedings, focusing on Inter Partes Review proceedings. This webinar reviews filing logistics and introduces pertinent topics such as petition grounds, prior art, and claim challenges for IPRs in particular. We will discuss the importance of communication between attorneys and paralegals when branding exhibits, preparing declarations and powers of attorney, serving documents, arranging payment of filing fees, and other aspects that will help filing day run as smoothly as possible. This course lays the groundwork for future modules to be released in 2023.
Instructors:
Jessica L.A. Marks is Senior Patent Counsel at Unified Patents, LLC. Her practice focuses on post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in technology areas including the internet-of-things, cloud computing, open-source, and content distribution. Prior to joining Unified, Ms. Marks worked at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, where her practice included prosecution, litigation, ITC proceedings, and PTAB proceedings. Ms. Marks has served as an adjunct professor at George Washington Law School. Ms. Marks graduated from the University of Maryland (now Francis King Carrey) School of Law, and holds a Master in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and B.A. in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Ashley Cheung is the Principal & Founder of Virtual Patent Gateway, LLC (VPG). Before launching VPG, founder Ashley Cheung worked for more than 20 years as a patent litigation paralegal/case manager supporting patent disputes at a leading intellectual property law firm and general practice firm. She has established VPG as a client-driven business that supports work/life balance for VPG's team and clients. VPG's strength is its experience. Although founded in 2020, VPG has already supported over 100 PTAB proceedings in various stages. Ms. Cheung obtained her Paralegal Certificate from The George Washington University and holds a Master in East Asian Languages & Cultures from the University of Kansas, and B.A. in dual degrees in Political Science and East Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Kansas.
